Want to Study Business Administration with Achi Amber Yaokasin

What is the course you are currently taking?

BS Business Administration

How was your major different from your expectations?

I initially took up BS Business Administration and Accountancy but I am glad I shifted to BS Business Administration because I got to explore more on subjects I was interested in like different types of marketing for example. I expected Business Administration to be very general and managerial but it actually depends on the student which electives to take and whether or not he/she would like to pursue a field in business deeper. Some like to study more on HR, Finance, or Operations, which is also very much possible in BS BA.

What is the best and worst thing about your course?

The best thing about my course is that the lessons are mostly taught through case studies so it really helps prepare us for the “real life” setting and challenges us to think outside the box.

The worst thing about my course is that what we learn is actually very dependent on our profs because of the concept of academic freedom wherein profs are free to teach whatever they want in any way they want. This can be good or bad, again, depending on the prof.

What skills from high school did you need to apply the most for this course?

For BS Business Administration, I would say the skills from high school needed most are critical thinking or problem solving, communication, leadership, and perseverance. Everything else is a plus or can be learned in college on its own.

What advice would you give for students planning to take your course?

My advice would be to enjoy the learning journey and chart their own path. Lean in to your curiosities and don’t box yourself into what the school teaches. Do your own research, ask people around, and try things out for yourself. That way, your academic experience is complemented by your out-of-school learning. Lastly, always keep grounded in God’s Word, seek His leading throughout your whole college journey, and know that He is always in control no matter what.
